Hi, I’m a new webmaster who’s been building an RPG system from the ground up. I have a beta version of it up on my new website, ElementsRage.webs.com, and am currently looking for people to play test it and to join the forms on the site. The RPG is a table top game based in a medieval fantasy world. The Game play is similar to dungeons and dragons, but uses its own ideas. The site features live chat rooms, community forms, a fantasy arcade, and a dice roller. The game has 8 races, 10 element possibilities, 14 class, and dozens of spells and skills. I’m still working on it, but id like some feed back and suggestions on it> If your interested check out the site and tell me what you think.

My friend and I are starting up a website in the next couple of weeks and I’d like to get some advice.

Firstly, the website is an online comic in a similar fashion to Penny Arcade, except it’s not about computer games. It will be updated bi-weekly.

What I want to know is:

1) Are there any recommendations on hosting sites? I saw an advert in a magazine for 123-reg.co.uk and seems like a good deal. But does anyone have any other hosting sites I can look at to compare?

2) How effective are Ad Words or Pay-per-click advertising? I’ve been looking into advertising on Google and Facebook for the first few months to boost traffic. Does anyone have any tips on using PPC (Pay-per-click) advertising or other forms of advertising? NOTE: I will submit the site to all the top search engines, and I will not be using one of those automatic services.

3) We’re hoping to make a bit of cash on the side from advertsing. Obviously I’ll be spending money on actually getting traffic to the site first, but does anyone have any tips or recommendations with regards to this?

Finally, any other advice or links to websites that will help with getting a website up and running and gaining traffic, advertising the site, or gaining money from advertising will be appreciated.

Powweb is on a 50% sale – $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them. Their plan includes:

Godaddy doesn’t offer a free domain, but you can get one for $2.19 if you’re buying hosting from them, plus they also have a 20% sale at the moment. This plan (Deluxe) also includes:
• $25 Google AdWords Credit
• $50 Microsoft adCenter Credit
• $50 Facebook Ad Credit

2) Pay-per-click advertising is very effective, but there’s a lot to learn. I recommend you to use these free credits and invest some time researching adwords (through google).
NOTE: I don’t recommend submiting your sites to search engines at all, let them find you through some links. If you don’t have any site which will link to your new site, google this: link building, backlinks, do-follow, social bookmarks…
