The Longest Journey: Adventure Game of the Year Edition

September 23rd, 2011

Posted by admin in arcadia online games | No Comments »

51HEEXATK8L. SL160 The Longest Journey: Adventure Game of the Year Edition
ReviewBefore embarking on The Longest Journey, check your preconceived notions of reality at the door. While this may play like a traditional adventure game, the story is anything but conventional. As art student April Ryan you’ll soon discover you have the ability to bridge two worlds–the 23rd-century, science-oriented Earth that you live in, and its counterpart, Arcadia, where magic is reality and technology is the stuff of legends. Telling you more than that would spoil the story, but suffice it to say that your ability to cross between the two worlds must be used to save both.

The game spans four CDs and needs all that space to hold both the gorgeous graphics and hours of high-quality speech. Everyone you meet has plenty to say, and you’ll want to listen to everything because the game contains some of the most brilliant voice acting ever recorded. Each character has such a distinct and engaging voice that you could play this game with your eyes closed and it would maintain much of its beauty, although you likely won’t want to blink after your first glimpse of the game’s detailed environments. The graphics run at a feeble maximum resolution of 640 x 480 but are packed with enough atmosphere and animation that they look great even on a large monitor.

The Longest Journey obviously excels from a technical standpoint, but it’s the writing that really makes it memorable. April maintains a diary that can be read to give players further insight into the game’s strange events, and into April’s mind as well. Lengthy conversations that seem tedious at first later serve to really make you care about the game’s characters. They become more than simply people who exist to dispense items or tell you where to go next, and it’s fascinating to watch April develop as she slowly absorbs the gravity of the situation into which she’s been thrust. This game may seem like the longest–and most boring–journey at the beginning, but after a few hours adventure fans and anyone else who likes a good story will probably wish it would never end. (Note to readers: this game has an ESRB rating of Mature, and contains a lot of adult language.) –T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Outstanding production values
  • Terrific writing
  • Should run well on practically any computer

Cons:

  • Many of the puzzles are too contrived
  • Game gets off to a slow start

I think Sega Dreamcast is better than PS3,360,& Wii dont you?

September 23rd, 2011

Posted by admin in arcadia online games | 5 Comments »

I think this cuz

1.You get many great underrated games like Shenmue,Skies of Arcadia,& Prince of Persia Arabian Nights.& better games in general.
2.You get a VMU cuz some games feature minigames so 2 games in one or if your playing a football game like NFL 2K(& in my opinion Madden can kiss that games @ss)with a friend the plays will pop up on that small screen so privacy of plays
3.It hardly took up any space
4.It had a top loader so say it breaks & your trying to get a game out you press a button & get the game out(Trays & Slots are a hassle)
5.The AC adapter is easy to replace
6.It can live longer than any of those 3
7.You can browse the web without wifi
8.It can play Burned,Ripped,& PS1 games on it without modding but some PS1 games dont work as well as others so bleem(this feat is better than backwards compatibility)
9.It had a game called Seaman where you had a Mic. & you coulde speak to the game, man the Dreamcast was ahead of its time.
10.the main reason why I think so is because it revolutionized this era of gaming as the 1st 128-bit console, the 1st console to have internet,& the 1st console to have online play.& who cares if it cant play movies I dont buy a console to play movies I buy one to play games.
1.Xbox needs to fix its flaws
2.Wii needs better games
3.PS3 needs to stop focusing on graphics & HD

in my opinion all the old systems are built better last longer and are just all around more fun than any of the modern junk their throwing on store shelves for 500 bucks nowadays

Name of late 1980′s / early 1990′s dungeon themed arcade game?

September 23rd, 2011

Posted by admin in arcade top site | 4 Comments »

I’m looking for the name of a game I remember playing in the late 1980′s/ early 1990′s at my local arcade hall.

It was a dungeon crawl type game – moving through dungeons, collecting treasure, fighting monsters.

For some reason the game Dragon’s Lair comes to mind (that was a cool game for its time), but I don’t remember any top down dungeons being part of that game, as that was more an interactive adventure type game. It could be that I remember Dragon’s Lair because it was next to the game I’m thinking of. Not sure.

What kind of genre would the game I’m thinking of be? Just arcade? Not rpg since you really just went through the dungeon and killed stuff and collected things and there wasn’t any xp or stat elements to it, since it was an "arcade" game that reset itself if you ran out of quarters icon smile Name of late 1980s / early 1990s dungeon themed arcade game?

Anyway, If anyone knows of any dungeon crawl type games made in the very late 1980′s to the early 1990′s that were out there in the arcades (probably no later than 1995), please let me know – I would appreciate it!

Also, If you don’t know the name could you list any web sites that cater to mostly arcade games – not home video games as this was not a home game (at least I don’t think it was) I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your time!

Since it was one of the more popular arcade games at the time, I believe you’re thinking of Gauntlet.

It came out in 1985 by Atari Games. It’s considered a milestone in gaming history because it was the first game that featured cooperative multiplayer.

"Released during the emergence of popularity of other role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, the game was a sensation, being one of the first true dungeon crawl arcade games." (wiki)

I too have fond memories of this game. This, and the other game you mention, Dragon’s Lair, were two games that really got me interested in the whole D&D scene, and RPG gaming. I think many people out there have similar experiences with these two games.

For those people in the younger generation who haven’t tried it, go ahead and try out a pen & paper D&D style game – I highly recommend it.

Also, you should check out youtube (and other sites) and do a search on Gauntlet – there’s a surprising amount of gameplay videos, and fansites as well.

Bioshock 2 Online Video #7 (Team ADAM Grab: Arcadia)

4. Jordank5 (0:00, 10-1-3)
5. LoWizzle_55TR_G (0:00, Unavailable)

Result: Team Atlas wins 3:00 to 2:58.

——————————————
This is my first video featuring Team ADAM Grab. Each second of grabbing Little Sister = More ADAM Points!!!

The thing that made RE5 Vs Mode stupid is that people use you for points in order to get a higher rank in Team Slayers/Survivors. Some people would sell their souls to the devil to get a higher rank in RE5 (Example: Yoshie Matsuo).

However in MGO, Killzone 2 & Bioshock 2, no one can use you for points. You have to earn your points through “Hard Work” and I like working hard for points ^^

This game was very close at the end and our team barely won it by 2 seconds thanks to thoma01as getting that last Little Sister grab.

Enjoy this close match. General likes to focus on killing (its what he does best) while I go after that Little Sister without any regard to my K/D ratio for the match.
